| At the edge of the "Sauerland" lies the City Menden (NRW) in the
periphery of approx. 30 km to the cities Dortmund and Hagen. For those, who would like to find Menden on the globe: 51° 26 ' northern latitude and 7° 48 ' of eastern length. The entire surface extends to 86,08 km². Approximately 2/3 of this surface is agriculturally used surface and forests. The technical standard in Menden is high, particularly underlinded by innovative investments, e.g. the most modern lightning research center of Europe. Wellknown are also the metal and electrical industry, catalyst technique and the illuminating engineering, which achieve almost the whole world from Menden. The voluntary fire-brigade Menden is subdivided into the following units: At the fire and rescue department are 45 full-time firefighters employed. They work in a 3-shift system [24hours at the station then 2 days freetime]. The headquarter of the unit north is based in Bösperde with the vehicles ELW, the engines TLF 16/25 [pumper tanker] and LF 16/12. The fire brigade of bösperde consists at present of 49 active members, 18 members of the age and honour department and 1 member of the youth fire-brigade. Since 1914 there is a band within the fire brigade group.
